SAMPLE TOPICS & WORKSHOP CONTENT
THE MENTALIST: MANAGING CHANGE FROM THE INSIDE OUT
The phrase “adapt or die” is common sense to just about everyone. Why is it then that when an organization is undertaking a major change, many staff seem bound and determined to choose the latter? This workshop unlocks the neuroscience of change management and helps you learn how to lead change effectively through coaching and Socratic methods that work. By giving people’s brains what they need to feel safe and empowered in the midst of change, you not only get compliance, you get ownership & enthusiasm for the future.
MANAGING MILLENNIALS & MILLENNIALS MANAGING
Outnumbering the Baby Boomers and eclipsing the Gen X’ers outright, millennial employees are and will continue to move into positions of influence and authority at a rate previously unseen. They are highly motivated and creative performers who tend to operate on different terms and for different incentives than our American workplace culture has been accustomed to. To succeed in the future, every manager, new and experienced alike, will need to flex their style to be able to creatively engage our multi-generational workforce as mentors and teachers in order to bring forward peak performance.
PERSON-FIRST LEADERSHIP: MEETING PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE
This course helps supervisors & managers recognize and utilize the underlying building blocks of situational leadership, rooted in observation & communication, to effectively meet their people where they are, and activate their gifts for higher individual and team performance. All good leaders initially intend to treat their team members as individuals but the crush of deadlines and their own duties can create a slide toward leading teams as a collective of undifferentiated workers. Over time, this undermines morale & limits peak effectiveness by underutilizing individuals’ gifts and motivations. Participants will prepare to connect with the individuals they lead, understand how to flex leadership styles to match employee development, and improve staff morale while increasing performance.
MANAGING UP: PARTNERING POWERFULLY WITH POWERFUL PARTNERS
Has your work ever ground to a halt because someone above you in the hierarchy couldn’t make a decision, didn’t give your action item the attention it required or otherwise misread what you needed from them? Managing UP will help you break through the logjam. This course is focused on simple and clear techniques that you can use when working with supervisors, senior management and others to help bring clarity to the problem(s) at hand, expedite resolution and get the show back on the road. Those who master the art of Managing UP are not only able to get what they need from their superiors, they are highly valued as self-starters who solve problems & advance while others get stuck in the mud.
CROSS-CULTURAL COMPETENCE
In today’s workplace and society, it is no longer enough to respect diversity by remaining silent while keeping your distance. Success today depends on the constant and adaptive creation of new partnerships across people, communities and industries that tap into the greatest strengths and contrasts different groups have to offer. Cross-Cultural Competence is a paradigm and set of tools that any effective leader must have in order to partner with different groups in a way that engenders trust and accelerates collaboration. This workshop pulls back the curtain on the analytical and emotional tools that make diplomats great. You can use them as powerfully with your coworker as with that client across town.
WORLDS APART: THE ART OF LEADERSHIP VS. THE SCIENCE OF ADMINISTRATION
This course is an examination of the “soft skills” that make leaders influential and effective and set them apart from peers who may have excellent professional/technical skills but struggle to persuade, enroll and mobilize colleagues. Unlike program/product development or resource management, which a capable individual can succeed at unilaterally, “leadership” requires the willing consent of others. Participants will elevate their own leadership by understanding the roots of inter-personal influence, persuasion, and vision.
LEADERSHIP COMMUNICATION BOOTCAMP
Leadership is what turns plans into realities by effectively knowing who, what, when and how to communicate to get everyone onto the team and into action. This requires a basic playbook for different strategies & modes of leadership interaction – one-to-one, one-to-several, and one-to-many. Knowing key methods that serve each one and pros and cons under different circumstances is critical to any leader’s success. This seminar will provide you with a framework you can use to capture key audiences, and routines and methods that work. Peers will also explore how to handle some of the tricky situations that come up.
